Our Travel and Tourism students have been stepping into the role of real researchers. Using open ended questions, they gathered qualitative insights as part of their course, plenty of curiosity, great conversations and learning that felt genuinely real and fun.
It has been fantastic to see them develop confidence in their communication skills while exploring how research is used in the travel and tourism industry. 🌍📝✨

Our Year 7 students made some lovely cakes, which they are excited to decorate at home with cream and jam! 🍰✨
Our Year 10s have also been busy learning the art of sauce making. The focus was on creating a roux. Every student successfully made a smooth white sauce, added cheese, and then chose what to make with it. We had Mac and Cheese, Lasagne, cauliflower and broccoli cheese and lots of other delicious pasta dishes. A fantastic effort from everyone! 👏🧀💛

Our Year 9 students are getting creative!
They are currently working on an exciting business marketing project, developing their own new ice cream flavour. Using both primary and secondary research, they have been exploring customer preferences through questionnaires, analysing competitor data, and designing their own packaging, slogans and branding.
We cannot wait to see their innovative ideas come to life 🍦✨👏

Year 9 students have taken part in an exciting and dynamic STEM Tower Building Exercise led by the Royal Navy Youth Engagement Team. The challenge was designed to help our young people build vital skills in teamwork, communication, leadership and problem solving, while also giving them an insight into the global responsibilities of the Royal Navy.
Students were given a scenario: the Captain of HMS Sutherland had ordered their team to travel to a nearby island to provide urgent humanitarian support. On arrival, they discovered their inflatable craft had been punctured, leaving them stranded. To call for help from the fleet 50 miles offshore, they needed to build a radio tower strong enough to transmit a signal.
Working in small teams, they had just 20 minutes to plan, build and reinforce their tower before a simulated hurricane tested its strength. The challenge encouraged critical thinking, calm communication under pressure and adaptability as obstacles were introduced.
Across two days, every Year 9 student took part. The Royal Navy team praised their creativity, resilience and enthusiasm, and staff were incredibly proud of the maturity, teamwork and excellent behaviour shown throughout. It was a fantastic opportunity for students to explore engineering concepts while deepening their understanding of the diverse roles within the Royal Navy, from humanitarian assistance to global operations. 🌍⚓💡

Here are our brilliant Year 7 students showing off their excellent dissection skills.
After learning the names and functions of the different parts of flowering plants, they put their knowledge into action by carefully dissecting and labelling each part.
A great hands on way to deepen their understanding of plant biology 🌼🔬✨

Miss Higgins’ Year 8 classes have been getting creative as they explored the art of resist dyeing through Batik. Students learned how hot wax acts as a barrier between fabric and dye, allowing them to create beautiful patterns and shapes with real precision.
Using the traditional Tjanting tool, they designed their own wax patterns on white fabric before letting everything cool and move on to the dyeing stage. Once dried, Miss Higgins carefully melted away the wax with an iron and paper, revealing the stunning designs hidden beneath.
The next step will be to use these newly learned skills to create a final piece inspired by the wonderful work of Yayoi Kusama. We cannot wait to see what they produce 🎨✨👏

🌪️Soda can surprise!🌪️
Our STEAM Club have been busy investigating a fizzy mystery. If all cans of fizzy drink are 330ml, why do they have different masses? Why do some float and others sink? And what makes them so different from Group 1 Alkali Metals and Group 2 Alkaline Earth Metals in the periodic table?
With their natural curiosity leading the way, students explored reactions, calculated density, evaluated ingredients and had plenty of fun solving the challenge.
Next week brings even more fabulous Physics as we investigate Bernoulli’s principle and take on tornados (mini ones)! 🌪️✨🔬

This Mother’s Day, we want to take a moment to recognise all the love, care and support that surrounds our children in so many different ways.
Today is a celebration of mums, step‑mums, grandmas, carers, aunties and all the special people who nurture, encourage and champion our children every day. We also hold space for those for whom today may feel difficult, including anyone missing a mum, those who wish to be mums, or families who mark today in their own quiet way.
To every family in our school community, thank you for the kindness, patience and love you give 🌷
